About the initiative

Our ambition is simple:

to create spaces where everyone can feel safer, respected and welcomed.

Creating spaces where respect flows as freely as the music.

Souk Rassek is an awareness, prevention and mediation initiative designed to prevent gender-based violence and promote consent and kindness in festive environments. Initiated in 2023 by the EAC-L’Boulvart Association as part of the L’Boulevard Festival, it is now implemented and further developed by the 4S Association.

Souk Rassek operates through a dedicated information and welcome booth, art therapy workshops exploring emotions and consent, a listening space facilitated by psychologists trained in deep listening, and a team of volunteers conducting outreach to prevent and support situations involving violence or distress.

Would you like to develop an initiative similar to Souk Rassek?

Souk Rassek provides event organisers, producers and promoters with a range of resources drawn from its practical experience, focusing on the prevention of gender-based violence and the promotion of a culture of care in festival settings.

This platform brings together resources to help you draw inspiration from this approach and develop a scheme tailored to each event: methodological articles, practical tools, downloadable materials, practical guides and recommendations to help you prepare and structure your own approach.

The aim is to share the methods and lessons learnt from the Souk Rassek experience, in order to support cultural practitioners in designing their own prevention and outreach initiatives, tailored to their context and the realities on the ground.

These resources provide a starting point for devising similar approaches, tailored to each event.

The Initiatives: Overview

Souk Rassek offers a range of initiatives designed to inform, raise awareness, listen and provide support to people on the ground:

Prevention and mediation based on kindness.

Souk Rassek is an awareness initiative built on a strong belief: preventing gender-based violence requires both training and mediation.

In festive environments, where emotions move quickly and sensitive issues can be difficult to address directly, the listening unit plays a key role. It provides a space for protection and awareness, while also promoting and sharing practices rooted in kindness and care.

BOOTH AT L'BOULEVARD

A space for welcoming visitors, sharing ideas and listening, at the heart of the L’Boulevard festival.

A mediation booth similar to the one at Souk Rassek is not merely an information point. It is a landmark, a space for welcome and support, as well as a place for connection at the heart of the event.

For the 4S Association, designing a booth means creating a space where different intentions can coexist. Some people may stop out of curiosity, others to exchange a few words, and others because they are experiencing discomfort, concern, or simply need someone to listen. The booth must be able to welcome all these people equally, without hierarchy, pressure, or any expectation to speak.

MEDIATION & AWARENESS

souk-rassek-sensibilisation-violence-genre-festival-ateliers-mediation-2

Experiential workshops to discuss consent, respect and care through play and creativity.

In festive environments, awareness cannot rely solely on informational messages or top-down communication. Celebration is a space of bodies, sensations, relationships and pleasure. Mediation workshops offer an opportunity to explore gender-based violence, consent, respect and care through experience, play and creativity.

At Souk Rassek, we stand for a simple but fundamental idea: you can have fun while raising awareness. Pleasure, curiosity and creativity can often make messages more accessible and more lasting.
The workshops become spaces where people laugh, create and share, while opening the door to deeper and sometimes intimate reflections.

Providing on-the-ground support in potentially high-risk situations with calm and compassion.

In festive environments, situations involving gender-based violence, emotional distress, anxiety attacks, or physical or psychological discomfort can arise quickly, in contexts marked by noise, crowds, fatigue and heightened emotions.
In such situations, the absence of clear guidelines can make things more difficult for both the people involved and the teams on the ground.

For Souk Rassek, preparing teams in advance with the right approach and crisis-management tools makes it possible to respond with calm, consistency and kindness, placing protection, care and coordination at the heart of every intervention.
